7 Thoughtful Ways to Thank Your Staff

Published on 6/6/22

It’s easy to take staff for granted. You’re all so busy caring for animals that it’s hard to find time to show your staff how much they mean to you!

Here are 7 ways to thank your veterinary staff and create an environment where people feel appreciated:

1. Handwritten Notes

Thanking your staff is not just a nice gesture - it’s an opportunity to show each member what a difference their work makes.

A good way to do this is sending handwritten notes with specifics about why you appreciate each person on your team. Everyone wants to feel personally acknowledged for their hard work!

2. Small Gift From Their Favorite Store

If you know your staff (and we hope you do!), you’ll have an idea of what they might like.

If a staff member mentioned something in particular, take time to find that exact item. Even a gift card is an excellent way to say thank you.

3. In-Person Thank Yous & Public Praise

Sometimes a sincere in-person thank you is enough! Better yet, acknowledge their accomplishments in front of their peers.

4. Give Them An Extra Day Off

This is one of the best ways to show your vet staff how much you appreciate them! Some staff work long hours without much rest in-between. Give them an opportunity to rest and recharge so they can perform at their best.

5. Get To Know Them

It’s easy to get caught up in the day-to-day of running a practice and forget your staff members have lives outside of work!

Ask about their hobbies and what they do in their off time. Getting to know them as individuals builds connection and helps people feel comfortable and seen at work.

6. Share New Info

Your staff undoubtedly consists of passionate, caring people who love animals, many of whom likely aim to become veterinarians themselves. If you recently learned something exciting from a conference or event, share it with your staff. Not only will they find it interesting, but they can also help you think of ways to integrate it into the practice, making them feel involved and valued.

7. Thank You Cards After Challenging Cases

After a successful surgery or other challenging procedure, send a thank you card. This shows appreciation and encourages them to keep doing a great job.
