Lead Web Developer IBM Websphere

Penn Veterinary Supply is seeking a skilled Lead Web Developer – IBM Websphere to help us in achieving our digital and eCommerce goals. Reporting to the Director of Information Technology, the Lead Web Developer will oversee the internal web development team as well as contracted resources. The Lead Web Developer will assist with planning, product development, and timelines as well as provide feedback to marketing or sales teams on capabilities and solutions. The Lead Web Developer will have an immediate effect on our brand and our customer experience, as well as an ongoing impact in solidifying our reputation for excellent customer service.


Responsibilities

  • Using the agile development methodology, the Lead Web Developer will engage with the business and web development team on daily stand up and weekly/monthly sprint meetings.
  • Refine business and functional requirements and determine project scopes and specifications.
  • Mentor the web development staff and provide general design guidance and platform specific expertise.
  • Consistently create well-designed, tested code using best practices for website development.
  • Create websites and user interfaces, using standard HTML/CSS practices, while incorporating data from back-end databases and services.
  • Develop or validate testing schedules, addressing all browsers and devices to ensure various computers can access content.
  • Maintain updated knowledge of new and emerging industry trends and technology.
  • Ensure software stability via regression, support quality assurance, and perform unit and user-acceptance testing to identify bugs and ensure production operations run successfully.
  • Work quickly and carefully to complete small edits requested by stakeholders, collaborate with colleagues, and suggest new solutions to improve existing websites.

Skills and Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, information technology, or related field
  • Experience planning and developing eCommerce websites
  • Expertise with IBM Websphere (a must)
  • Working knowledge of web applications, Java programming language, and web services, such as APIs, CSS, CSS3, cross-browser compatibility, HTML, HTML5, JavaScript, .JSP, REST, SOAP, and web user interface design (UI)
  • Dedication to innovative, sophisticated designs and collaborative problem solving
  • Working experience in Linux environments
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Experience managing a team of other IT professionals
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced collaborative environment
  • Ability to organize one’s own activities and manage multiple priorities independently while also working as an active member on a team

iSeries Programmer/Analyst

Under the leadership of the Director of Information Systems, the individual will develop and deliver best practice solutions within the multi-functional IT and business teams. (such as Sales, eCommerce, Purchasing, etc.) while also supporting the organizational technology evolution and working directly with our ERP and Reporting systems.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop programs in RPG LE and Free Form
  • Troubleshoot iSeries program errors, messages and alerts
  • Collaborate with business and IT leadership to automate and/or optimize business processes
  • Work directly with the ERP vendor on support and development initiatives
  • Installation & testing of IBMi software updates

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a combination of education and experience
  • 8+ years of software development experience
  • 5+ years experience working in an IBMi series environment
  • 5+ years of RPG programming
  • Installation & testing of IBMi software updates & new releases
  • Possess an in-depth knowledge of implementing application architecture
  • Familiar with DB2 database architecture
  • Knowledge or understanding of how IBM iSeries applications work; Exposure to application components: UI, server architecture, system architecture, databases
  • Strong linear focus: Should be able to walk through detail for planning and executing a development/ERP solution
  • Comprehensive understanding of SDLC processes
  • Knowledge and experience using source code control
  • Experience with T-SQL data query/definition language
  • Ability to translate between technical and non-technical requirements
  • Experience in an Agile/Scrum driven delivery methodology a plus
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced collaborative environment
  • Ability to organize one’s own activities and manage multiple priorities independently while also working as an active member on a team
  • Strong attention to detail, well organized
