Commonly Asked Questions

What is the expiration date for compounded medications?

For compounded medications, the term Beyond Use Date (BUD) is used.  It is defined as the date or time which a compounded sterile preparation (CSP) may not be administered, stored, or transported and is calculated from the date and time of compounding.  Expiration date is a manufacturer defined term based on very specific testing used for commercially available products. A CSP cannot be labeled with the term “expiration date” or any variance thereof. It must be labeled with a different phrase such as, “do not use after” or “use before” etc.

While each compounded product is different, the BUD averages between 70-180 days.  Use of a compounded medication after the BUD would be at the veterinarian’s discretion.

Who should I contact if I have questions about ordering a compounded medication?

You can contact ourteam at [email protected].  Our team can answer your questions about the ordering process and we can also work directly with Premium Compounding if you have a custom compounding request.

Will I be billed by Penn Vet or by Premium Compounding?

Your compounded items will be billed by Penn Veterinary Supply and your standard payment terms will apply.  The items will, however, be compounded and shipped by Premium Compounding

How long does it take compounded medications to arrive?

Your compounded medications from Premium Compounding will generally be shipped within one business day of your order.  The shipping options you are presented with at checkout depend upon your location in reference to their location in Alabama and your shipping time will depend upon the selection you make.  For instance, if you are located within one-day in transit from Premium's location, you will likely see your compounded medications within two days of your order.

Why can I only select one shipping location per order of compounded items?

We have limited the shipping of compounded medications to one address per order to simplify communication of shipping options and charges as you order.  If you find it to be a regular need for your practice, please reach out to us at [email protected] about your practice's needs.

Why can I only order for one prescribing doctor per order of compounded medications?

Due to signature requirements for compounded medication orders, we currently limit ordering to one prescribing doctor per order.  If you find that this is a regular need for your practice, please reach out to us at [email protected] to discuss your practice's needs.
