Use Generic NSAIDs to Grow Practice Profit

Norbrook® recently launched Firox® (firocoxib) Chewable Tablets, the first FDA approved generic firocoxib for dogs in the U.S. Firox is a cyclooxygenase-2 (COX-2) selective NSAID for use in dogs that is bioequivalent to Previcox® (firocoxib) Chewable Tablets but offers a significant savings to the clinic over the pioneer. The lower cost will allow increased profitability to the clinic and savings to the client. This may lead to lower financial burden to the clients and increased compliance with patient pain management.
Firox is available in 57 and 227 mg strengths in 60 and 180 count bottles.
Firox Chewable Tablets are indicated for the control of pain and inflammation associated with osteoarthritis and for the control of postoperative pain and inflammation associated with soft-tissue and orthopedic surgery in dogs.
Bioequivalence studies have demonstrated that Firox pork liver flavored tablets deliver absorption and plasma levels over time that are equivalent to the pioneer.
By switching to Firox and strategically adjusting markup, clinics can significantly grow practice profit while providing welcome savings to their clients. As an example, in a hypothetical three doctor practice where each veterinarian places an average of seven arthritic dogs on Firox for OA each week and by increasing the markup over their “standard” markup, the practice could save over $145,000 in cost versus the pioneer brand and increase annual profit by over $49,000 (while saving each dog owner over $87 per dog each year!)
